Before you submit your entry, please note:

The Through Southern Lenses: Sciences in Focus Award is open to photographers who are nationals of a developing country in the global South (list available here), who may submit one Photo Essay composed of ten (10) original photographs produced within the last five years, on the theme “Glaciers and Deserts”, and reflecting on the resilience and adaptation of communities and ecosystems in the developing countries.

Submissions must be made digitally through this website between November 20, 2025 and February 15, 2026 via the website southernlenses.org, and AI-generated images will not be accepted. Participation is free of charge, and incomplete or non-compliant entries will be automatically disqualified. By submitting, the photographer declares authorship and grants permission for FCW and TWAS to use the awarded images with proper credit.

The registered photographer declares that any identifiable persons shown in the submitted photographs have provided their consent to the taking of their image for it be used, reproduced, and published for promotional, educational, and/or informational purposes for an unlimited period of time, throughout the world, including in accordance with UNESCO's Open Access (OA) Policy and open licensing terms. Within 10 business days after the announcement of the results, winner/s shall submit to TWAS and FCW an Image Consent Statement (adult and/or minor) signed by each of the identifiable persons as formal proof that such consent has been obtained.
